web_turnerThis Tuesday September 4th at the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya in Barcelona, faculty member Kathrin Golda-Pongratz will present a new book about the British architect John Turner, known for his focus on housing, community organization and informal settlements. Co-edited by herself together with José Luis Oyón and Volker Zimmermann (Pepitas de Calabaza 2018), this edition, titled “John F C Turner: Autoconstrucción. Por una autonomía del habitar. Escritos sobre vivienda, urbanismo, autogestión y holismo“ translates for the first time into Spanish many of his lesser known and various unpublished writings on self-built housing in a revision of his holistic vision of spatial construction inspired by Patrick Geddes.

The presentation begins at 7:30pm at COAC Barcelona and will also be hosted by architect Josep María Montaner and COAC Barcelona president Sandra Bestraten.

Pongratz is an architect, urban planner and urban researcher focused on issues of participation, urban memory and the right to housing. Turner is the author of the seminal book Housing by the People, which you can download a pdf of in our blog post on free landmark books.
