D4H-Facebook-LinkedIn-InstreamAlumnus of the Master of International Cooperation Sustainable Emergency Architecture, Alberto Preato, is a program manager at the UN Migration Agency (IOM) in Niger, Visiting Humanitarian Research Fellow at the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) of Fordham University, and co-organizer of the Design for Humanity Summit in New York. Alberto Preato has been on the frontline of some of the most challenging humanitarian responses to natural disaster and complex crisis and has been deployed as shelter and settlement expert in Mozambique, Colombia, Haiti, Honduras, Vanuatu, Fiji, and Niger.

With the support of the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the United Nations, IIHA at Fordham University and the UN Migration Agency (IOM) the Design for Humanity Summit will take place at Fordham University Lincoln Center on June 22nd, 2018. This event will explore the intersection of design and humanitarian action for dignified crisis response. Prominent humanitarian and design professionals will discuss current best practices and generate human-centered design strategies that address contemporary humanitarian challenges. Through cross-collaboration of both sectors, this initiative aims to drive humanitarian response in a more dignified, inclusive, and sustainable direction.

Carmen Mendoza, codirector of the Masters and director of the School of Architecture of UIC Barcelona, and visiting professors Marie Aquilino and Sergio Palleroni will also be participating in the Panel: From Public Interest Design to Humanitarian Design: How Design Compels an Inclusive Humanitarian Response.
