International Research Seminar in Urban Planning

One seminar, two cities. After the first part of the VI International Research Seminar in Urban Planning which was held in Bogota 3-4 June, the Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona (ETSAB) will host the event in Barcelona, on 16-17 June. The seminar aims to promote the shared reflection about current researches in the urban area, stimulating an exchange between researchers in different Ibero-American countries, by analyzing the characteristics of the transformation processes in the territory and the factors that explain them. For a holistic vision, it integrates different scales and analysis approaches, related to planning and management at urban, metropolitan and regional scale, to urban design, and to geography and urban sociology, that are usually considered separately.

The seminar is seeking the participation of young researchers who are developing master courses, doctoral or post-doctoral programs and welcomes them to discuss their investigations, to confront different analysis perspectives and case studies, for a shared thinking space around city and territory, around the following research lines:

  • Urban morphology
  • Contemporary metropolis
  • Territorial project
  • Metropolitan Region of Barcelona
  • Latin-American cities
  • Planning methods and instruments, urban design and management.
  • Landscape and heritage

The organizing committee counts with the participation of our co-director Carmen Mendoza, and Pablo Elinbaum from the International University of Catalonia ESARQ-UIC; they are also part of the jury, together with Pere Vall, teacher of our master. The intense schedule will feature a conference of our teacher Isabelle Anguelovski on 16 June at 6pm, among others.
