The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), and the ANDROID Disaster Resilience Network are launching a Media Arts competition for students as a way to look into the future. Entitled Where will humanity be by the year 2045 if we fail to tackle disaster risk?, the competition is linked to a global campaign run by the UNISDR that counts with over 2,000 participating cities across the world, to raise awareness around disaster risk.

The students are asked to work in a cross-disciplinary team, to produce a series of outcomes which could be branded as a campaign or as a stand-alone work in the form of a film- fiction or documentary, public artwork, animation, website, interactive installation, app, poster, projection, ambient work etc. The jury will value the originality, wisdom and creativity of the submissions to increase the awareness to the dangers of ignoring disaster risk. Winners will receive cash prizes awarded by the Centre for Disaster Resilience and certificates awarded by UNISDR; and the winning entries will be displayed at the 4th International Conference on Building Resilience, to be held from 8th – 10th September 2014, MediaCityUK, in Salford, UK. Winning entries will also be showcased at the 3rd World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, Sendai City, Japan, 14 to 18 March 2015, and organised by the United Nations General Assembly.

The deadline for submission is 15th August 2014: you will find further information on the competition on the Build Resilience website.
