Under the title ‘The Architect is Present’, the exhibition curated by Luis Fernández-Galiano shows the work of five international studios characterized by a committed and austere architecture developed where poverty, the lack of resources and technical ingenuity encourages community participation. With offices located in the five continents, Diébédo Francis Kéré, TYIN Tegnestue Architects (Andreas G. Gjertsen & Yashar Hanstad), Anupama Kundoo, Solano Benítez and Anna Heringer have built social housing, rural schools or community centers with an extraordinary economy of means and sustainability awareness: mud, bamboo, wood, ceramics or recycled materials are used to give constructive solutions adapted to the social needs of the population.

Inspired by Marina Abramovic‘s performance at the MoMA in New York 2010: ‘The Artist is Present’, in which the artist sat still for over 700 hours in front of the visitors, the exhibition proposes a personal interaction and architectural dialog, during the workshops or the lectures the architects will give at several architecture schools over the country, with the aim of turning the exhibition into a proactive manifesto.
