Last week our masters program welcomed architect Paul Cabrera, technical referent for construction and relief of MSF Spain (Medecins Sans Fronteres). We’ll be posting a video interview with Paul later this week, but in the meantime we wanted to share this Small Constructions Manual which he edited in collaboration with last year’s students Maarten De Cock and Pedro Salavessa Garcia.
The handbook is intended to show the most effective ways of building facilities to support MSF’s activities in the field, and thus serves as a very useful resource for any humanitarian organization looking to build simple, small constructions often needed in the aftermath of a disaster or conflict. The manual ensures a good understanding of constructions’ basic concepts, and guarantees a standard of quality that can fulfill medical and logistical needs. It covers from basic organization needs and materials, to a step-by-step construction process and the rehabilitation of existing buildings.
