Bangkok isn’t the only citiy threatened by climate change, and it’s sinking. Le Monde reports that Niramon Kulsrisombat, a town planner and teacher at the architecture department of the prestigious University of Chulalongkorn, says that though floods have always been a natural phenomenon in Bangkok, recent urbanization has meant that many buildings now occupy lands that used to allow the water to drain. Some experts opt for sea walls, yet others say a sunken city is inevitable.
“Sooner or later, the rising sea level will threaten more that 1 million buildings, 90% of which are residential.”
