Last week we announced our partnership with RMIT’s Master of Disaster, Design and Development (MoDDD), a new postgraduate degree that enables students to work internationally in the disaster and development fields.
After having first launched at RMIT in Melbourne in October with their Designing for a Fragile Planet symposium, MoDDD is now celebrating its European launch with another symposium in partnership with UN-Habitat and our university UIC at its Barcelona headquarters on November 30th, which will gather over 10 seasoned professionals from the field of design and development, including keynote speaker Eric Cesal (former head of Architecture for Humanity), Graham Saunders, head of Shelter and Settlements at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societes (IFRC), Dan Lewis of UN-Habitat, and more. Invited speakers also include our co-director Carmen Mendoza and our current student Lisa Smyth, who has worked on the field with Architecture for Humanity and Plan International.
The symposium talks will explore how design can be used as a strategic tool to help resolve complex global challenges including poverty, natural disasters and climate change and discuss the role of private and public sector agencies involved in local and international disaster management and emergency scenarios.
