This Thursday Oct. 31st, UN-Habitat and Guardian Cities will inaugurate the first World Cities Day in celebration of sustainable urban development. The event, hosted by Shanghai Municipality in the PRC but celebrated in cities worldwide, will highlight cutting edge urban development initiatives in cities around the world, with the aim of promoting the international community’s interest in global urbanization, pushing forward cooperation among countries in facing challenges in urbanization and contributing to sustainable urban development across the globe.

Celebrated under the theme Leading Urban Transformations, the event will showcase the results of an open call for ideas launched back in September, highlighting effective and transformative solutions to urban challenges submitted by from citizens everywhere. The ideas will be examined by a panel of international experts and a global audience to find the planet’s most innovative urban developments.
