The Desert Castle at COAC Barcelona

This Monday 22 October, Ecumenopolis–the architecture and city-themed film sessions at the COAC (Colegio de Arquitectos de Cataluña)–will be screening The Desert Castle, which documents Snøhetta’s design process as they compete with OMA to build a new city “in the middle of nowhere” for an Arabian prince. The Gateway Project is currently under construction in desert of the United Arab Emirate Ras Al Khaimah. The film will be followed by a Skype talk with the architects from their studio.

The documentary is not only an opportunity to see the architects’ creative process at work, but should also raise interesting questions about ethics, sustainability and the implications of “how money meets architecture”.

Here is a short clip.
