Our next open lecture features Matthias Nohn, visiting professor for Urban Management and International Cooperation of the Technical University Darmstadt in Germany, who will be talking about urban poverty alleviation.
Starting his professional career as a bricklayer in 1996, Nohn has held positions in the public, private and academic sectors, as well as at international development organizations. He has worked extensively on urban and socioeconomic development in Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Egypt, United States, Kenya and India. He holds postgraduate degrees from Harvard Kennedy School (Public Policy), German Academic Merit Foundation (International Affairs) and Darmstadt University (Architecture and Urban Planning). As McCloy Fellow at Harvard, he won the Outstanding Policy Analysis Award for market-based affordable housing in urban India. His recent work includes strategy planning, monitoring and evaluation of poverty alleviation projects for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a legislative reform proposal for structuring slum improvement schemes, research on making development control regulations more inclusive, a street design manual for Indian cities and a business plan for launching two housing microfinance companies in India and Colombia.
